The index's first monthly report: repricing events, vendor sale patterns, and stock churn across four major online reef vendors.

This is the first monthly report from the Reef Price Index, covering daily tracking from July 13, 2026 through July 31, 2026. The index reads the complete public catalogs of four major online reef vendors — World Wide Corals, Top Shelf Aquatics, Reef Chasers, and Reefwise — once a day, and follows every individual livestock listing from day to day.

July by the numbers

July's defining fact is stillness: across 143,036 listing-day comparisons, prices genuinely changed 742 times (0.52%). 566 of those moves were cuts, 176 were increases, and a sale tag appeared alongside the change 469 times. Repricing came in waves

Most July days saw a handful of price changes or none. The busiest days — July 29, 2026 (365 moves), July 18, 2026 (102 moves), July 20, 2026 (67 moves), July 27, 2026 (57 moves) — were vendor promotion events, visible in the data as one store repricing a slice of its catalog overnight:

The standing-sale landscape

A point-in-time reading from July 28: of 3,193 in-stock livestock listings across the four vendors, 1,966 (62%) displayed a compare-at price above the asking price — 1,852 of them at Top Shelf Aquatics, where the sale tag is effectively the catalog's default state, versus 17 at World Wide Corals, where it's rare. Only 134 of those tagged listings had changed price at any point in our tracking window. These were genuine repricings — the same listing, cheaper the next morning — not standing tags. Availability changes fast; treat these as July history, and see the live price drops page for what moved recently.

Catalog composition, as of July 28

The four vendors carried 9,541 priced livestock listings: 7,095 coral (74%), 2,138 fish (22%), and 308 other invertebrates (3%). Zoanthids alone accounted for 1,945 listings — the hobby's biggest single category by a factor of ~1.7 over Acropora (1,164). The full census is in What online reef vendors actually sell.

What to watch in August

• Whether the repricing rate holds near July's 0.52% or shows a late-summer promotional bump.
• Whether captive-bred pricing keeps undercutting wild-caught where both exist (July's surprising finding).
• The first full month of Euphyllia and zoanthid price history — enough accumulated data to say whether their medians hold as inventory turns over.
